Nine businesses and one business executive honored with Business in the Arts award

Nine businesses and one business executive have been named recipients of 2002 Business in the Arts Awards to recognize their
outstanding vision, leadership and commitment in developing exemplary partnerships with the arts. These awards, given annually for more than 35 years,
are sponsored by the Business Committee for the Arts, Inc. (BCA) and Forbes Magazine. The Awards were presented on October 2 in the Asia Society and
Museum, New York, NY, as follows:

Founders Award, a BCA Hall of Fame designation given to companies that have exhibited exceptional long-term vision, leadership and commitment to
developing alliances with the arts.

Leadership Award to recognize exceptional vision, leadership and commitment to developing and encouraging business-arts alliances.

LOCAL COMPANY RECEIVES NATIONAL ART AWARD
Local offshore survey company Fugro Chance Inc. was recently selected as one of nine businesses in the U.S. as a recipient of the 2002 Business in the Arts
Award. The company was recognized for its outstanding vision, leadership and commitment in developing exemplary partnerships with the arts. These awards
given annually for more than 35 years, are sponsored by the Business Committee for the Arts, Inc. (BCA) and Forbes Magazine. The Awards were presented
earlier this month in The Asia Society and Museum in New York City.
The BCA, founded in 1967 by David Rockefeller, is a national, not-for-profit organization that brings business and the arts together. It provides businesses
of all sizes with the services and resources necessary to develop and advance partnerships with the arts that benefit business, the arts and the community,
including professional consulting services and specialized workplace programs.
Chance received the award for its involvement in the regional public arts program called “Pelicans on Parade.” The company sponsored the program through the
Acadiana Arts Council and helped promote the colorfully decorated fiberglass pelican statues that were displayed throughout the Lafayette area.

FACT SHEET AWARD
To further arts education initiatives, Fugro Chance collaborated with the Acadiana Arts Council (AAC), Lafayette, Louisiana and the Lafayette parish School
System (LPSS) to expand Pelicans on Parade, a project teaming artists with students from 13 elementary schools receiving Title 1 funding through the Federal
Primary Academic and Creative Experiences (PACE) program. The company encouraged business in the area to commission pelicans, gathered donated products and
services from local manufacturers, and helped place the pelicans throughout the community.
Fugro Chance has benefited the arts, business, and the community by: -
Supporting an arts education initiative that teamed students with local artists and enabled educators to teach students about Louisiana history, science and the environment in conjunction with facts about Louisiana’s state bird, the pelican.
- Auctioning 34 of the 50 pelicans to raise funds for arts education programs.
- Helping to produce a field guide written by high school English classes that documented the project, recognized students, artists and the AAC, and
promoted arts education.
- Assisting with marketing by developing project merchandise including notecards, screensavers and maps detailing pelican locations.
- Assisting with public relations, including unveiling a pelican sponsored by Fugro Chance during a "technology tour" for local dignitaries and media
which focused on the company’s recent technology developments
- Increased tourism by generating local and national media coverage.
- Covering the attention of people who had not been involved with the visual arts.
