Dr. Dariusz Lapucha receives Fugro’s “Herman Zuidberg Award for Innovation”

Dr. Dariusz Lapucha, Senior Geodesist with offshore survey company Fugro Chance Inc., is the first recipient of
Fugro’s “Herman Zuidberg Award for Innovation.”
The namesake of this prestigious Fugro award is long-time Fugro innovator and inventor Herman Zuidberg. This Fugro Engineer, that has been working for the company for 40 years, put his work into a simple perspective: ‘Development is making something possible that was previously thought impossible. It is the modification and adaption of technical systems, of human beings. Development is generally not inventing something.’
Dr Lapucha was chosen as the inaugural recipient for his GPS developments that have consistently improved Fugro’s capabilities, accuracies, and profitability over the last ten years.
Lapucha is the primary developer of Fugro HP Decimeter level GPS positioning system “Starfix® HP”, which is the most accurate positioning system of its kind in the world. Lapucha also developed a virtual base station method implemented in the OMNISTAR System used worldwide, and is a co-developer of the first On-the-Fly Kinematic system for commercial use.
He earned an M.S. Degree in Geodesy from the Warsaw University of Technology, Poland; an M.S. Degree in Surveying Engineering from the University of Calgary, Canada; and a Ph.D. in Geodesy from the Warsaw University of Technology, Poland.
