Fugro Inc. introduces a long-range GPS augmentation service with decimeter level accuracy

Starfix ®-HP, Fugro’s ‘state-of-the-art’ GPS augmentation system, brings decimeter level position accuracy to offshore operations, at ranges far beyond those possible with alternative high accuracy positioning systems. Starfix-HP is the latest addition to the Starfix range of Differential GPS (DGPS) services operated by Fugro worldwide.

Since the introduction of GPS, Fugro has been at the forefront of DGPS positioning developments, such as; wide-area network DGPS (using multiple reference stations), a real-time ‘on-the-fly’ Kinematic GPS solution and more recently Starfix-Plus. Starfix-HP (High Performance) is Fugro’s latest innovation in DGPS technology. It is the result of a considerable in-house development effort, resulting in a wide-area GPS augmentation service broadcast via satellite, which is robust, accurate and reliable.

Starfix-HP is an advance on the successful Starfix-Plus service introduced in 1999 to provide a solution for ranging errors resulting from the passage of GPS signals through the ionosphere. Starfix-HP also corrects for ionosphere induced system errors, but goes one step further to deliver decimetre level positioning accuracy, hundreds of kilometres from the nearest reference station.
