Fugro Chance Completes INS Well Set

Offshore survey company Fugro Chance Inc. recently completed work in the Gulf of Mexico on a deepwater well-set project.

The Marine Construction Survey Division of Fugro Chance Inc. was responsible for the positioning of three offset wells relative to an existing well in 3,000 feet of water. To enable sparse ranging into the tightly coupled INS solution, the company employed their FineTrack T-100 Inertial Navigation System (INS), along with Wideband Medium Frequency (MF) acoustic positioning.

Well installation tolerance was required to be better than two feet. With FineTrack T-100 INS positioning used from the rig based ROV, well demarcation was achieved at better than one foot accuracy. Following successful spud-in within the well demarcation location, well as-built positioning was attained.

All operations were performed from the drilling rig using the rig-based ROV, including LBL compatt placement.
